On day 178 of my 366-day self-care challenge, I explored giving gifts as an act of self-care.
Gift-giving is one of my very favorite things. I love random giving–buying gifts for no particular reason.
It usually happens when I stumble upon something small that makes me think of someone I care about. That happened to me this week as I passed by something that had my mother-in-law’s name written all over it. (It included two of her favorite things combined into one.) It wasn’t anything fancy, just something that made me smile as I thought of her.
This is just one more example of why self-care doesn’t have to be self-serving. Giving to others helps strengthen the relational aspects of our well-being, and it also gives us an opportunity to express ourselves emotionally.
Sometimes it’s the little things that mean the most.
What kinds of random gifts have you given?
