On day 78 of my 366-day self-care challenge, I expanded my skill set by getting certified as a health and wellness coach.
Whether you choose to pursue an advanced degree, explore new areas of your industry through continuing education, or obtain a new certification in your field, learning is a vital component of self-care that supports the aptitudinal dimension.
On Friday, I sat for (and passed!) an examination to obtain a health coaching certification from the American Council on Exercise (ACE).
Health coaching is a client-centered approach for achieving sustainable health behavior change. Unlike traditional health care approaches that impose medical treatments, coaches help clients vocalize their own vision of a healthy future, and then help them develop goals and plans to achieve that vision.
While this certification wasn’t a requirement for my practice, ongoing learning is important to me. It helps ensure my personal coaching style reflects the best practices within the field.
Learning is my responsibility.
The more we challenge ourselves to learn new things, the more ideas we will have to share with the world.
