Self-Care Challenge (Day 78): Getting Certified

ACE manualWhether you choose to pursue an advanced degree, explore new areas of your industry through continuing education or obtain a new certification in your field, learning is a vital component of our aptitudinal health.

To support this important dimension of my health, on Friday I sat for (and passed!) an examination to obtain a health coaching certification from the American Council on Exercise (ACE).

Health coaching is a client-centered approach for achieving sustainable health behavior change. Unlike traditional health care approaches that impose medical treatments, coaches help clients vocalize their vision of a healthy future, and then help them develop goals and plans to achieve that vision.

While this certification wasn’t a requirement for my practice, I believe that ongoing learning helps ensure my personal style reflects the best practices within the field.

Learning is my responsibility.

The more we challenge ourselves to learn new things, the more ideas we will have to share with the world.
