Self-Care Challenge (Day 218): Getting a Scalp Massage

bottle of Aveda oil

If you’ve never experienced a scalp massage, then you’re really missing out. Either find a hair salon that includes it as part of their standard service, or schedule a massage and specifically ask the therapist to save a few minutes toward the end to focus on this area.

In my opinion, even the best total body massage doesn’t measure up unless it ends with a scalp massage.

As my self-care activity for the day, I relaxed into a lovely scalp massage during my appointment at the hair salon. My stylists uses an aromatic essential oil that makes it even more heavenly.

Massage is believed to increase blood flow, reduce blood pressure, and induce a state of relaxation. Scalp massages, in particular, are thought to increase serotonin (which serves as a mood enhancer) as well as increase hair thickness.

But if the thought of someone you barely know touching your head freaks you out, there are a number of scalp massager options on the market.

Once you’ve experienced it, you’ll know what I mean.
