Self-Care Challenge (Day 219): Stopping

a road that runs between two small hills

Making stops while traveling, a topic of controversy in many families, was my self-care exercise for the day.

Instead of pushing through to our destination (like we have many times in the past), we stopped periodically to get gas, use the restroom, and stretch.

Taking intermittent breaks makes travel much easier both physically and emotionally. It also encourages drinking adequate fluids and increases alertness.

When traveling with pets or small children, frequent stopping is a no-brainer, but we often neglect to show ourselves the same kindness.

What’s your strategy for taking breaks when you travel?
