On day 220 of my 366-day self-care challenge, I spent the evening stargazing.
I admit it, space freaks me out a little bit.
Our vast universe, largely unexplored and poorly understood, is a mystery wrapped in an enigma.
My self-care activity for the day was to watch the Perseid meteor shower while soaking in a hot tub in the wee hours of the morning.
This was only the second time in my life that I’ve seen the green glow of the milky way bleeding through a black sky without a hint of light pollution. (The first was on the island of Kauai on my wedding night.)
Amazing doesn’t even come close to describing it.
The stars, configured in their predictable way, were interrupted periodically by flashes of light streaming across the sky. I immediately felt small–much like I imagine other small creatures feel when they see me walking through the yard.
So many questions…
What’s out there? How does everything fit together? How are the decisions I make every day affecting all of this?
While I didn’t sink into my pillow with any answers that night, I did fall into a deep slumber feeling humbled and grateful for having the opportunity to witness and experience the beauty of life.
